Tasking Shenanigans
2024 Thesis Project

Today, mental health has been an ongoing crisis that has been affecting everyone, especially college students. It has been found, through studies with the American College Health Association, that around 77% of students were currently experiencing some form of mental health distress. How can a D&D role-playing game experience address and support improved mental health for college students? Sometimes mental health leaves people feeling very disorganized, so Tasking Shenanigans is here to help! This unique gaming experience allows players to organize their tasks and assignments.

Tasking Shenanigans
Prototyping and Process

During the course of making this project, it went through many phases. At one point it was potentially going to be a card game. It became a full board game instead.

The initial round of prototyping before mt review involved my game looking very different to the final design. I changed the box to be smaller, and the game board to be bigger so it can fold down and fit into the box. The game pieces were changed to be circles because the tombstone shape wasn’t a good fit for a grassy field setting.

Setting up my space in the gallery was done over the course of five days. Day one, I painted the wall, and I built my desk and chair during day two. A lot of progress was made on day three when I painted the tree and put up vinyl. Paint touch-ups were done on day four and I put up my shelf soon after. Day five was the final day for setting up. That is when I spread out my game on the desk, decorated my shelf, and set up pens and stickers to allow viewers to interact with my game.
